Welcome to Godollo
Situated in the Budapest metropolitan area, Gödöllő is a considerably small yet wonderful town that is rich in a great diversity of cultural and historical legacy.
Architecture
Baroque became the most significant, even dominant architectural style in Hungary. Probably because of its richness and dramatic use of colors and forms and certainly because it made possible to represent one’s wealth and position in society. So it is important to emphasize that Baroque style takes the leading role so we can see the Royal Palace and take a walk in the beautifully preserved garden. The 350-year-old palace shows you how local aristocrats lived from the end of the 17th century. The palace was the summer residence of queen Elizabeth, Sissi.
Museums
Gödöllő is a city in Pest County, about 30 km east of Budapest. It is often visited as a daytrip from Budapest, or as a stop off while travelling to Eastern Hungary. It is among the most popular destinations for Austrians visiting Hungary, largely due to the royal palace, former home of Emperor Franz Josef and Queen Elizabeth. The 250-year-old Royal Palace is one of the largest palaces in the country and is a significant work of Hungarian Baroque architecture. Furthermore, it is only 30 minutes away from Budapest, both by car and by commuter rail. The castle features exhibitions representing the life at the castle, its history, Hungarian royal culture and how Sisi, Elisabeth, Queen of Hungary spent her time in the castle in Hungary.
